40th Leith Harbour Free, Course 2, Sun 23 October 2022

The day dawned bright and sunny with a cool easterly breeze developing.  It was labour weekend so we expected to be a bit down on numbers, however we were pleasantly surprised to see many turning out for a great run and walk down the Portobello Cycle/Walk Way.

Leith’s Liam Turk (M20-34) took the opportunity to smash a personal best on Course 2 of 18 minutes 9 seconds in winning the 5km. Not too far behind him was first time runner young 13 year old Oliver Scarth who finished in an amazing 20 minutes 19 seconds. Surely it will not be long before he breaks the 20 minute barrier as he would have battled a bit into the easterly breeze on the way out. Third in the 5km was Hill City-University’s Mark Geddes MM45-49 in 20 minutes 51 seconds. Fourth was MM55-59 runner Mark Lokman (Hill City Univ) with an excellent personal best on course 2 of 21 minutes 3 seconds. Finishing 6th was 15 year old Lisa Lokman who was the first female runner to finish. Her time was a personal best on course 2 of 21 minutes 54 seconds. Ash Dustow MM65-69 never ceases to amaze with his personal best on course 2 of 22 minutes 24 seconds. Will he soon break the course 2 record for his age grade?

27 runners and walkers completed the 5km course.

Leith’s Casey Pearce (M20-34), who is improving with every run, followed Liam Turk’s example by smashing out a course 2 personal best of 37 minutes 33 seconds in winning the 10km race. Second was Caversham’s Jono Ryan (MM40-44) who broke the course 2 record in the MM35-49 age range in 38 minutes 20 seconds. Finishing third, Leith’s Bryan Staunton is achieving personal bests all over the place and in varying distances.  Here he did it again by achieving a course 2 personal best of 39 minutes 49 seconds. Fourth was MM60-65 runner Wayne Porteous in an excellent 42 minutes 50 seconds.  First female across the line in the 10km was Sarah Watts (MF45-49) in a course 2 personal best of 47 minutes 41 seconds.

15 runners completed the 10km course.
